Digital Media Services
Converting archived newspapers, journals,
magazines and other periodicals to digital media offers an attractive,
efficient solutions for broadening access. Online, your material can provide an
opportunity to generate an additional income stream.
Digital Divide Data uses the most up-to-date in
digitization technology to ensure the highest degree of accuracy and cost
efficiency in data capture. We use state-of-the-art Optical Character
Recognition (OCR), double-entry capture, and computerized data verification to
ensure excellent keying accuracy. We can even supply a turn-key solution
including capturing all document and implementing a user-friendly,
transaction-ready website to give users instant access.
Methodologies:
We offer two options for newspaper digitization --
full-text capture and article capture with "hidden" text.
The higher-end option is full-text capture,
where we scan all images and re-key every article in the newspapers archive.
Our double-keying process assures 99.9995% accuracy.
This option allows the articles to be almost 100% searchable
and can be viewed in a light html-text format.
We completed a full-text capture for the Harvard Crimson --

Article capture with "hidden" text is our more affordable digitization option.
Instead of keying the entire text, we separate all articles into individual images.
The text on these images is than captured through optical character recognition
and included as "hidden" search text in the background.
In addition, we re-key important fields like the headline,
byline and lede to enhance searchability and improve
search result display characteristics.
We also use advanced image compression technology to insure that image size
is at an absolute minimum. For an example of this type of digitization,
see our demo website which includes one issue
of The Harvard Crimson digitized with this process:
