Khive Ratha was born on 01 January 1981 in Kean Svay
District, Kandal Province to a family of farmer's in the North of Cambodian.
Our family faced many natural disasters, that is why we decided to move to
Phnom Penh and we rented a house for the whole family.
I live with seven members of my family. My father is a motor taxi
driver and my mother sells pork at the market.
When I studied at 11th grade my father had a high blood pressure he
could not do anything except eat and drink.
At that time my life was so difficult we had no profit and my
mother worked alone to earn money for the whole family. Therefore I decided to
work in the garment factory, it was 9 km from my house.
I got $70 including over time but I spent so much to travel there.
I decided to stop working at the garment factory after working for 2 years.
I sold perfume at the market and I got $45 per month. On the other
hand my brother got married and he left to live with his wife, so I had a
chance to study computer and English.
Now I am a typist in Digital Divide Data Organization I'm so happy,
since I can study at the morning and come to work at the afternoon. And I have
some money to support the family's living expenses.
I will increase my knowledge, because we will have an English
teacher teach us one hour a day. This is one part of my dream and this work
will help me survive. I hope that my life will be better and I can improve my
capacity.
