My name is Eng Naleak . I was born on 7 February 1981
in Kandal Province. I was disabled from my birth. I have four brothers and I'm
the second child in my family. My family used to be very rich, but in 1997 my
father was not well and he sold the house and everything to solve the problem.
I decided to stop studying in class 9th, but my family did not want me to stop.
However they did not have enough money to support me, that is why I gave up my
study. On the other hand I have a grandmother who is living in the country
side. I must go to look after her because I am the only daughter.
I wanted to learn English for a long time, but my family is so
poor. My grandmother told me to please go to school for my future, if you do
not study you do not love me.
On 10th December 1999 my friend told me about Wat Than, The
Training Center of Disabled People, I was so happy and came to join. I always
think that in my life I do not have a chance to study, but Wat Than has made my
dream come true.
I moved to Phnom Penh on 01 January 2000 when Marynoll Wat Than
accepted me to learn computer and English. During my studies there, my teacher
told me that Digital Divide Data Organization wants to recruit the disabled
people to work. As you know handicap people are so hopeless to find the job in
Phnom Penh. For me I feel disappointed and suffered.
I tried to study very hard in Wat Than and I thought that it is the
first hope for me to get knowledge for my future. I always dream that in the
future I would get a good job, so my dream comes true when I am hired to work
in Digital Divide Data Organization. This Organization provide a good chance
for the disabled people, poor people, victims of landmines and women in crisis.
And Digital Divide Data promise to teach us a English one hour a day.
This is the first job for me I would like to show my impression
with this job: I met a good Director, Jeremy Hockenstein and three managers
here: Mr. Sophary, Mr. Samoeun and Mrs. Iv Sovannary.
I work here only 6 hours a day, 6 days a week. This job improves me
a lot, since I can read English while I type the Images and I can know the
story from 1882 ago. The policy here is so great which provides us the
insurance health and when we are not well they will pay money fully without
cutting the salary. I think this is a good Organization in Cambodia.
